In December 2018 we completed our fundraising campaign towards development of a community wind farm which will donate its substantial income to fund community initiatives across the island. Thanks to the support of all the investors we raised over £453,850 towards our project.
Our 1.8MW wind turbine community project started generating electricity in August 2019, meeting it's ROOFIT deadline in September 2019 and, is now fully operational. Uist Wind aims to generate over £2m for the North Uist community over a projected project life span of 22 years. The net profit from this transformational project will be donated to the community via the North Uist Development Company, providing a sustainable revenue stream for the island from the electricity it generates. |
This figure shows the actual electricity generated (kWh) by Uist Wind to-date which is sold to the grid, compared with the predicted P50 scenario. In 2020 we met our target of 6,129,000 kWh in just under one year of operational electricity generation: enough to power all the homes in North Uist!*.
*Based on 1600 residents and an average household electricity consumption of 3831kWh from ECUK 2018. |
